Lehigh Heavy Forge Corporation, Bethlehem, PA, is pleased to announce the acquisition of the former Standard Steel, Latrobe facility. The facility will operate as Lehigh Specialty Melting Inc. and as part of the WHEMCO Family of Companies. The Latrobe facility has a long history of quality steelmaking in Western Pennsylvania. The plant, founded in 1888 as the Latrobe Steel Company, has a proven history of providing quality steel products, and excellent customer service for over 110 years. Lehigh Heavy Forge is one of only a handful of ForgeMasters in the world. They operate two hydraulic open die forging presses – 3,000 Ton and 10,000 Ton. The Lehigh 10,000T press is the largest open die forging press in the Western Hemisphere. Lehigh supplies a wide range of steel forgings including: ship shafting and pressure vessel components for the US Navy propulsion programs, forged steel work and back up rolls for flat roll steel and aluminum mills, generators and turbines for electric power generation plants, press components, die blocks, and a wide variety of ferrous and non-ferrous custom open die forgings. Lehigh Specialty Melting will work in conjunction with ISG Steelton to supply Lehigh Heavy Forge with the full range of high quality steel ingots and grades required for their diverse product mix. Excess melting capacity at Latrobe will be sold as billets forged at Lehigh Heavy Forge, and as bottom poured ingots. We may be contacted at:
